Consistent and regular beat really turns me off and it has been this way forever. After listening to this double album for a couple of years I started searching for other similar music by LTJ Bukem but I have to say honestly that I was not successful. I bought 4 of them and returned them as well. Relaying on someone's opinion I ended up buying (not an easy task to get them on discs) his Earth series. Yes, there is a regular, repetitive drum beat in here but the strength of the atmosphere created by other sounds pushes it into the background on a lot of songs. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I don't like to be told what to do or think and that is exactly the feeling I get when I hear consistent repetitive drum as the major force driving the music.
About 8 years ago I was searching for music similar to Kruder & Dorfmeister's K&D sessions, which I love, and following somebody's recommendation on Amazon.com I ended up buying this double album. Music of Journey Inwards is excellent. Drum and Bass or Techno are the kinds of music I stay away from. Once again, I don't like techno but I love ambient music and that is the reason I love this double album. I love sticking one of these CDs into my 5cd changer and playing it with a mix of completely different music. I got his Logical Progression and was turned off by it very quickly. There is great ambience in this music and the techno elements although noticeable, stay subdued.
LTJ Bukem develops and transforms moods with real mastery. I love rock but I dislike rock'n'roll for the same reason. To me the difference between the music of Journey Inwards and other music of LTJ Bukem I listened to is substantial. This music has a strong atmospheric layer which plays a major role here. There is a definite 21st century feel to this music, as well as lightness of air it surrounds you with. I have no problems seeing that some people may like all of it. My favorite tracks here are Watercolors, Rhodes To Freedom, Point Of View, Viewpoint, Suspended Space, Unconditional Love, Feel What You Feel and I don't like the beginning track very much.
What else can I add to the previous reviews already created by others. Only regret that I have is not buying this cd sooner when it first came out cause it was not one of Ltj progression sessions(which I own all series). At first, I was really into disc 1 but as time went on, disc 2 started creeping up on me.
I really wonder what goes on in Ltj mind while he is creating beats. Men, I miss that beach. This 2 discs cd is rare gem.
Imagine sitting on a beach in the Bahamas, white sand and wavy blue waters then Ltj hits you with SUNRAIN, DESERTED VAULTS, UNCONDIONAL LOVE. If you really LISTEN to how everything syncronizes in each song and feel the tempo taking you through ups and downs, then you understand how I feel. Everytime I listen to Journey Inwards, I hear and feel something different.
Get this CD if you are into DnB and jazz and you will not regret it. Something different in this case, is a good thing.
Paying $18 for a used, emmacculate version was much better than buying the $75 new version (although the quality of the music might just be worth it). Unfortunately, it was discontinued and I could not find it in any store.
I find most electronic dull, repetative, and musically unrefined. This two disc is simply fantastic.
I owned this CD several years ago (2000) and loved it so much that when I lost it, I sought out a new copy. This is one of the rare exceptions.
I love the uber-intelligent jazz influences and its laid-back nature. I did, however, find it used on Amazon Marketplace offered by Booktothefuture, which I highly reccomend both.
If you appreciate modern, jazzy electronic, this is album is deffinative.
One of my favorite records, regardless of genre. And a True Work Of Art. Just Glorious.
I don't want to buy it again. If this CD were an automobile, it would be an sleek, supercharged luxury car that would be invisible if not for the streetlights reflecting in its glossy, glossy paint. I had to move and leave almost all of my 1,000+ CDs in storage, and having this CD 2,500 miles away is driving me crazy. In the samples provided here, "Sunrain" and "Journey Inwards" are transposed, as are "Our World" and "Close To The Source," I believe. Watercolours is the only track I skip.
